Ballantyne
Presbyterian is blessed with a talented adult choir
which serves in morning worship services weekly.
We also recently started a children's choir with the following vision:
If we indeed desire that our corporate worship service remain consistent with Biblical principles of worship that follow in the Reformed tradition, we also then understand that our children must learn how to worship in this way. Biblical worship should be set apart from the normal activities and language of our culture and therefore does not come naturally to us. If we expect our children to grow up with an understanding of how and why they worship, they must be taught.
One part of our worship service involves the singing of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. If we truly want our children to grasp the deep theological truths of these songs, they must be able to sing them, understand them, and love them. It is important that our children be taught to sing and exalt the Lord together, and this can be done most efficiently through a children's choir and leadership from each individual family.
The children's choir at Ballantyne Presbyterian, was formed not just for the sake of having another program for the children, but as a way of furthering their Christian education, particularly in regards to song in worship. The choir should exist to teach children to read music and to sing with joy and confidence.
The rehearsals take place on a weekly basis, right before Sunday school hour. Rehearsals last 20 minutes and involve all children that are able to speak and concentrate through a rehearsal.
The children's choir participate in the corporate worship service at least twice a year, once at Christmas and once in the spring, perhaps during the Easter season.
